23-year-old John Fatoye was declared missing by his Family after he left home some days ago around 5am for his workplace at Lekki and didn't return home after over 24 hours. Pakistan's 20-member Council of Islamic Ideology has proposed allowing a man to 'lightly beat' his wife if she commits certain 'offences'. The council which is a constitutional body of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan advises the government but cannot make laws.

Amongst its recommendations, it suggests women can be beaten for a raft of offences including refusal to have sex without a religious excuse, failure to bathe after intercourse and periods, for not wearing hijabs, or for speaking so loudly that strangers can hear them.

Brace Up or Have Your Scholarships Withdrawn – Gov. Shettima to Medical Students Abroad

Borno State Government on Saturday warned 10 out of its 60 female indigent students studying medicine in Khartoum, Sudan, to brace up or have their scholarships withdrawn.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students are studying medicine under a scholarships programme introduced by the governor.

One year in office, President Buhari lists achievements


The presidency has released a list detailing all the achievements of President Buhari in the last one year. He marks one year in office tomorrow May 29th. The list as published by the News Agency of Nigeria contains the following:

Jafaru Sougie, 49, from Edo State, allegedly killed his wife of 26 years yesterday at Araromi Street, Oshodi, Lagos State. Roseline, 46, was a trader and the breadwinner of the family as Jafaru was jobless. He had serially assaulted Roseline, a mother-of-five, on the grounds of being unfaithful.

LASG Unveiled new modern buses to replace danfo and molues in the state

The Lagos state government has unveiled new modern buses it wants to use to replace and phase out danfo and molues in the state.

The new buses are expected to be cheaper and durable and the government advised danfo bus owners to key into the project now before it is too late.
The commissioner for transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola said the scheme would see to the introduction of higher capacity buses that would have 30 seats as opposed to 14/18 seats, while the buses would be Eco – friendly, air-conditioned, comfortable, support for maintenance and backed by appropriate workshop which creates jobs.

Mobereola said with the introduction of the new mode of transportation, danfo buses would be displaced economically as Lagosians would be left to choose between very cheaper means of transportation and expensive danfos.  The commissioner said Lagosians would rather queue up to board buses at cheaper rate than what the danfos would offer, thus, displacing them economically, adding that some of the existing danfo drivers had already keyed into the project.

Fire engulfs a female hostel at Cross River State College of Education

                    

A student has been hospitalized following a fire outbreak at the Cross River State College of Education, COE Akamkpa female hostel today, May 27. 

According to CrossRiverWatch, the fire started at about 11am in the change-over switch at the hostel entrance and caused extensive damage to the building and property of the residents with no immediate help or means of putting off the inferno.
The fire extinguishers at the hostel were empty at the time of the fire incident. It was after this event that the College Management bought new ones just today" CRW reports.
The Deputy Provost, Dean of Students Affairs, Hostel Supervisors and some lecturers rushed to the scene of the incident after the fire outbreak. Fortunately, most of the students had gone for lectures or there would have been serious fatalities.

One of the female students who was sleeping in the hostel while the fire was raging fainted as a result of smoke and was rushed her to the hospital.

The Hostel Porter while speaking to CrossRiverWatch said, 
"The incidents is as a result of electricity upsurge. Yesterday the engineer tried to pump the uncharged water tap, but could not pump water, so he left without informing the management that there is electricity fault, so the next morning when the generator was powered, it resulted to this incident that has now inconvenienced all the dwellers in the female hostel B’"

Lagos State Government lift restriction of movement in today's environmental sanitation

The Lagos State Government has lifted the restriction order on human and vehicular movement during today's Environmental Sanitation Exercise.
According to a statement by the spokesman for the Ministry of Environment, Tunde Awobiyi, the decision was taken in order to allow free movement of examination materials and also for Students, Invigilators and other Stakeholders to ensure effective participation in the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) Examination which is to hold across the country today Saturday, May 28th.

Man commits murder after finding out his new girlfriend is a man

A 21 year old Texas College football player, Carlton Champion  Jr. met his 24 year old girlfriend and fell quickly in love with her. His new girlfriend was Tyrone Lee underwood who went by the name Tyra. The couple had been chatting for several weeks on a dating mobile app and quickly fell in love but hadn't met each other face to face. 

Tyra had a feeling that Champion was cheating on her and decided to end the relationship by text. Because Champion was so in love with Tyra, he sent a text to her apologizing saying he would make it up to her.
Champion was seen on surveillance camera leaving his College dorm at about 2 am. 
Tyler Police were called by neighbours who said they heard multiple gun shots in the area and a suspicious vehicle. When Police got there, they found a Toyota Camry off road and a dead black male behind the wheel who had been shot.

Students surprise Nigerian classmate by sponsoring his mom’s trip to his graduation in U.S

 

Mike Tertsea, an only child, hadn’t seen his mum, Felicia Ikpum, 56, since he left Nigeria to study at The John Carroll School in Bel Air four years ago. Felicia didn’t even recognize him when she met him at the airport, last Friday.

During the school’s baccalaureate ceremony on Wednesday, Mike, a basketball player, was surprised to learn that the whole senior class, joined by faculty members, came together to make it possible for his mother to make the trip from Benue State, Nigeria, to see him graduate from high school.

Lagos State Govt appoints retired Hon. Justice Adesola Oguntade as the Fourth Chancellor of LASU

The Lagos State Government has appointed retired Honourable Adesola Oguntade as the Fourth Chancellor of the Lagos State University, along with other respected men and women who have excelled in their various fields, as members of the 10th Governing Council of the University. 

Speaking on new developments for the School, Governor Ambode confirms that he assented to the bill amending the Lagos State University Law. With these amendments, Academic Staff of Professional Cadre can now retire at the age of Seventy (70) years while Academic Staff of other Cadres and Non-Academic Staff will now retire at Sixty-Five (65) years.

Wow!!! Lady returned N5,000 back to a bank after the cashier overpaid her

The lady tells her story below...
“I just want to share my experience, My name is Vera Ikediala. I worked with Bethelmendels Int’l Ltd as an admin Manager. One morning my Boss gave me a cheque to cash N45,000 at Olowu Ikeja branch of First bank. The cashier paid me across the counter, in 1000 naira bills. But because I was in a hurry I did not count the amount.

'I can't stop Ekiti workers from going on strike - Ayo Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose says he cannot stop workers in the Ekiti state civil service who intend to go on strike over unpaid salaries. Fayose said this in an interview session with pressmen yesterday May 25th
"I want to make some clarification particularly on issues that affects the welfare of our workers. I want to say very expressly that workers are the engine room of government and they deserve all the encouragement but currently we are in crisis financially, the average wage bill in terms of payment of workers is between 2.5 to 2.6billion which includes parastatals, university, college of education and all that.

Female student commits suicide at Bayero University

Sarah Imoleaya Ighidabo, a female student in the Department of Library Science, Faculty of Education, Bayero University Kano (BUK), has ended her life by taking Sniper. She left a suicide note that read: “I will not apply for course suspension my academics is all I live for, if I can’t get it right, f**k existing.”

14-year-old Ese Oruru gives birth to a baby girl


Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old girl abducted by a man named Yunusa Dahiru from Bayelsa State and taken to Kano where she was forcefully married to him, delivered a baby girl today at the Government House clinic Yenagoa, Bayelsa. UK and Australia jointly deport 40 Nigerians


  
The deportees arrived at the Hajj camp area of the Lagos Airport, at 7:25am, yesterday and were received by agencies like the Police, National Agency for Protection and Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), who checked their identities to ascertain their nationalities. They looked sober. It was gathered that they were repatriated for overstaying their visas and other immigration offences.

70% of drivers attached to Governors have expired licences and are not well trained - FRSC Corps Marshal

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi has disclosed that seventy per cent of drivers attached to most state governors have expired licences and are not well trained. 

Oyeyemi, who was represented by Assistant Corps Marshal/ Head Policy, Research and Statistics Kayode Olagunju, stated these yesterday, May 25, when he visited Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello in Government House, Minna in continuation of the commission’s public sensitization on use of standard tyres.

Teenage boy commits suicide rather than face his parents anger for crashing a new car

An 18-year-old teenage gymnast, Ruslan Gutu, committed suicide by hanging himself, after crashing a brand new car bought for him by his parents. According to his girlfriend Athena, Ruslan confided in her on how worried he was about telling his parents about the crash of the new car.

Athena told the coroner that he was 'shaking' as he told her he was worried about how he would pay for the damage done to his crashed car.
